This Week in Gaming: 4th -10th Sept 2021

The world of video games is ever increasing, with news on new games, expansions, and gaming hardware surfacing on the internet almost every day. And since everyone cant be online at all times, looking at everything that is being announced, we thought we should do something about it. So, to help bring the news to everyone, we are going to be updating the world about what all is happening in the gaming industry. Think of it as a recap.

So, let’s begin!

Alan Wake Remastered Confirmed

On the 7th of September, 2021 Sam Lake, the creative director at Remedy Entertainment, posted on “The Sudden Stop” confirming that a remaster for the beloved game “Alan Wake” will be releasing this fall. In this post, Sam Lake said “I’m beyond happy to tell you that at the time of writing this, Alan Wake Remastered is nearing its completion.” Also mentioned on the post were the platforms for which the remastered title is going to launch. The game will be launching for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.

Sam Lake mentioned that his remaster was the result of a partnership with Epic Games and hence it will be available on the Epic Games store for purchase. In his post, Sam went on to explain that this remaster came into existence because of the massive support that gamers had for the original game.

Alan Wake Remastered Official Trailer

Today, on the 10th of September, 2021, the official trailer for the remaster for Alan Wake just dropped with a mostly positive reception. As of right now, the trailer posted on the PlayStation’s official YouTube Channel has a 'like to dislike' ratio of 40 to 1. The trailer also confirmed that the game will also be available for the PlayStation. Back in 2010, the original game was launched as an Xbox exclusive however later in 2012 it came to PC as well, but it did not come to PlayStation until now.

The Witcher Comics Got a Kickstarter Campaign

Do you love anime comic books? Do you also love “The Witcher” game? Do you wish that you could combine both these creating a Japanese manga surrounding the story of “The Witcher” set in medieval japan rather than being set in Europe? Well “The Witcher: Ronin” is exactly that, and on the 7th of September, 2021 a Kickstarter campaign launched for it by CD PROJEKT RED.

On the official Kickstarter page for “The Witcher: Ronin” it is stated that this will be an original comic book set in a world inspired by ancient Japan. It is confirmed on the Kickstarter page that the main story will consist of more than 100 colored pages and 4 chapters. As of right now, the goal was set to 106,472 USD. Due to massive support from over 11,000 backers, it has already surpassed its goal and reached more than 550,000 USD. This crowdfunding campaign ends on the 27th of September, 2021.

Multiplayer Gameplay Revealed for Call of Duty: Vanguard

On the 7th of September, 2021, a post on Twitter by Call of Duty Official confirming the reveal of the Call of Duty: Vanguard multiplayer trailer. The tweet also confirmed that 20 multiplayer maps will be available on day 1, a new tropical map for Warzone will be releasing and much more.

On the same day, a live stream presentation was hosted on the official Call of Duty YouTube channel. The live stream consisted of the multiplayer reveal trailer and tons of other information about the game. The overall reception for this event was mixed. A new anti-cheat system for COD: Vanguard was announced during the live stream event and it was confirmed that it will carry on over to Warzone after Vanguard and Warzone get integrated. This is praised by Warzone players who were frustrated with the hacking issue that consistently plagued Warzone, however, the new map for warzone suggests that there will be a severe lack of cover to hide from enemies, although definitive cannot be made until the map is released and thoroughly tested. The World War 2 setting of the new COD did not manage to generate enough hype as well.

Trailer for God of War: Ragnarok Drops

The God of War series of games began with its first installment “God of War” in 2005. Now this series has become one of the crown jewels of PlayStation Exclusives. The latest installment in this series is “God of War: Ragnarok and the official reveal trailer dropped on the official PlayStation YouTube channel. The trailer included tons of gameplay footage and story continuation details. One of the major story details that we observed was that Atreus has grown as is evident from the change in his voice. We also got a glimpse of the “God of Thunder” himself “Thor”.

PS5 Exclusives Confirmed: Wolverine and Spider-Man 2

During the PlayStation Showcase 2021, tons of games were revealed including Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine. Reveal trailers for both games dropped on the 10th of September, 2021, but it was not clear to fans whether the games would be exclusive for the PlayStation or not. The trailer for Wolverine also did not have much content in it, to begin with, so fans were left only to speculate. This confusion was cleared by a developer at “Insomniac”, Ryan Schneider. Ryan Schneider posted lots of information about both these games on the PlayStation Blog and, confirmed that both these games will in fact be PlayStation Exclusives.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Gets a Remake

After the PlayStation Showcase 2021, one thing is clear, we now have tons of reasons to buy a new PS5. One of these reasons is that a remake for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic just got confirmed. The reveal trailer for this remake is now live on YouTube. The reveal for the remake caused insane reactions from fans during the live event as it was the first game that was revealed.

Rainbow Six Siege Free Weekend and Crystal Guard Update

Rainbow Six Siege just went free to play for the weekend starting from the 9th till the 12th of September, 2021. During this free weekend, players will have access to all 60 operators, and if anyone decides to purchase the full game, their gameplay progression will start from where they left off. The game is also on sale right now and can be bought for as low as 5 USD.

The Crystal Guard Update also launched this week and included a new operator named Osa. Osa is an attacker who is equipped with a deployable shield that is both bulletproof and clear. Also included in the update are some balance tweaks and reworks for three maps. The long-awaited feature of jumping for Twitch’s drone is also added with this update. Now a small elevation is no longer an issue for Twitch.

Rest in Peace Michael K. Williams

In other gaming-related news the beloved actor, Michael K. Williams died on the 6th of September, 2021. Michael K. Williams played in several movies including, “Snitch” and “The Wire”. He is most notable role was playing as “Omar Little” in the HBO drama series “The Wire”, but for gamers, he is popularly known as “Irish” who is a character in the game Battlefield 4. It was also announced that this character would return in Battlefield 2042. For both Battlefield 4 and Battlefield 2042, he provided voiceovers and motion capture, however, the future of “Irish” is currently unclear.
