This Week in Gaming: Dec 26 - Dec 31 2021

The world of video games is ever increasing, with news on new games, expansions, and gaming hardware surfacing on the internet almost every day. And since everyone cant be online at all times, looking at everything that is being announced, we thought we should do something about it. So, to help bring the news to everyone, we are going to be updating the world about what all is happening in the gaming industry. Think of it as a recap.

So, let’s begin!

Apex Legends One of the Leaders of 2021 Steam Charts

To rewind how Steam games performed this year, Steam just released a "Best of 2021" list on the official Steam store. This list includes several games that rose to the top in different categories. Examples of these categories include the top sellers, the most played games, and top controller-friendly games.

Of the several categories that are a part of the "Best of 2021" list, Apex Legends managed to make its way into the platinum rank for three of them. Apex Legends is one of the most revenue-generating games, one of the most-played games, and the most popular controller-friendly game according to the steam "Best of 2021" list.

48 Thousand Cheaters Banned With Warzones Ricochet Anti Cheat System

Being a free-to-play game, Call of Duty Warzone has been plagued with a swarm of cheaters for a long time. This has caused tons of players to leave the game. However, with the new Ricochet anti-cheat system, and about 48,000 players being banned, it seems that things are looking to get better soon.

Battlefield 5 Getting More Popular Than Battlefield 2042?

Just like Battlefield 5, Battlefield 2042 had a rough launch. However, the Steam concurrent player count charts for both games suggest that Battlefield 2042 is in a way worse state right now than where Battlefield 5 was after its launch. This is because, according to the Steam charts, Battlefield 5 has a larger concurrent player count than Battlefield 2042.

With that said, these results certainly do not paint a clear picture of what is actually going on. Looking at the Steam concurrent player count charts is not the best way to judge Battlefield 2042's popularity. This is because Steam is not the primary platform where Battlefield 2042 is sold on. Also, after careful observation, it can be seen that the concurrent player count for Battlefield 5 on Steam is fluctuating daily, while Battlefield 2042 has a much more stable concurrent player count. All these factors along with the large sales number for Battlefield 2042 suggest that it is in a way better state than Battlefield 5.

The Halo Mister Chief Cosmetic Pack Is Here

In honor of the popular meme, Halo Infinite gets a new DLC filled with Mister Chief-themed cosmetic items. The Mister Chief is an unofficial mascot of the Halo series and was created by Frank O'Connor, who was the Community Manager back in the day. With not much outrage as was for the previous DLC, it seems that players are liking this one.

Astralis Loses Three Key Players

Astralis is by far one of the most popular and most celebrated teams for the CSGO pro scene. The news of three of the key players leaving the team has gotten fans quite upset. However, with Dupreeh, Magisk, and Zonic no longer a part of the team, it is Astralis who has to deal with the pressure of building an entirely new team from scratch.
