This Week in Gaming: Dec 19 - Dec 25 2021

The world of video games is ever increasing, with news on new games, expansions, and gaming hardware surfacing on the internet almost every day. And since everyone cant be online at all times, looking at everything that is being announced, we thought we should do something about it. So, to help bring the news to everyone, we are going to be updating the world about what all is happening in the gaming industry. Think of it as a recap.

So, let’s begin!

The Winter Contingency Event for Halo Infinite’s Multiplayers Is Now Live

With the holiday season just around the corner, holiday season-themed events have started coming to several games including Rainbow Six Siege, Grand Theft Auto 5, etc. To give players a Christmas winter vibe, Halo Infinite’s multiplayer also just got a new holiday season-themed event. This is the Winter Contingency Event, which includes some new cosmetic items that look great and are in line with the overall Christmas vibe.

After going live on the 21st of December, 2021, the Winter Contingency Event for Halo Infinite will last about two weeks and will end on the 3rd of January, 2022. This event is longer than the previous event that came to Halo Infinite and it seems that it was the right move by the developers to make it this long. Gamers will now have plenty of time to take part in this event and unlock all the cosmetic items after enjoying some of the holiday time with their families.

The Final Fantasy 7 Remake for PC Is Loaded With Major Bugs and Issues

As is confirmed by the player count charts and the sales charts, there is no doubt that Final Fantasy 7 Remake was one of the most popular games. Launching back in 2020, fans of the franchise were super excited for this game, but only those who owned a PlayStation 4 or a PlayStation 5 were able to enjoy it. This is because the game launched only for the PlayStation 5 and the PlayStation 4, which kept PC gamers only hoping for a PC launch.

After waiting for over a year, it seemed that the wish of PC gamers would finally be true with the PC version of Final Fantasy 7 Remake being released on the Epic Game Store. However, fans of the franchise have to deal with some disappointment as the PC port is loaded with some major issues and bugs. No option to toggle V-Sync, no option to reduce or control the motion blur, or not even a slider to control the resolution scaling are just some of the issues that come with the game.

Combine all this with a severely poor optimization that drops the framerate from 120FPS all the way down to 25 FPS, and you have a mess of a game that tons of players are stuck complaining about. We can only hope that these issues will be fixed with a patch in the near future.

No More Speculation – PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS Officially Going Free To Play

PUBG: Battlegrounds was one of the leading giants in the world of the battle royale genre. It managed to attract the attention of hundreds of thousands of players even when it was in the Beta phase. What was most astonishing about the game was that it attracted players that had never even heard about the battle royale genre, bringing the whole genre to the spotlight.

Over the past few months, there have been several leaks and rumors circulating the internet that suggest that the game will be going free to play, but there was no official word from the developers about this. Now finally the developers have confirmed the game will officially be going free to play. This seems like a step in the right direction as most games are choosing the free-to-play route these days. Some popular examples include Apex Legends and Warzone. It will be interesting to see how this affects the player count of PUBG: Battlegrounds.

Challenge Accepted – The Devs Accept the Challenge Presented by the New World Community

Some of the New World players were a bit upset about its endgame. This caused them to initiate a challenge for the developers at Amazon Games. The challenge required them to complete the Myrkgard chest and portal run and stream the whole thing. This would prove to the upset players that the developers actually play the game themselves. To a surprise, the developers responded to this challenge and accepted it. A total of ten developers played the game and a 55-minute Dev Run for the New World Myrkgard was posted on YouTube.

While playing, the developers did not shy away from accepting that they were not as powerful as some of the best and most dedicated players of New World. Along the way, tons of advice was also given by the developers but in the end, they had to surrender as they were unable to take on so many enemies at once.

This was a positive sign from the developers to the New World community as it showed that the developers actually listen to their fans and they themselves play the game. This creates much more loyalty to the game as players feel more connected to the game developers.

That is it for this week but stay tuned as we are going to be bringing you more information on whatever is happening in the world of video games next week. Until then, let us know on any of our social media platforms, what you think of all of this. Do you think this week’s news has been exciting?
