This Week in Gaming: 9th - 15th Oct 2021

The world of video games is ever increasing, with news on new games, expansions, and gaming hardware surfacing on the internet almost every day. And since everyone cant be online at all times, looking at everything that is being announced, we thought we should do something about it. So, to help bring the news to everyone, we are going to be updating the world about what all is happening in the gaming industry. Think of it as a recap.

So, let’s begin!

Battlefield 2042 – Dice Sends Surveys about the New Specialist System

If you are following Battlefield 2042, then you are probably aware of the new specialist system that Dice has introduced with their latest installment of the series. For those who don't know, Battlefield used to have a class system for older titles, including Battlefield 4 and Battlefield 1. This class system allowed players to choose from several classes. Each class had different weapon options that were available to them.

With Battlefield 2042, the developers have decided to shift onto a new Specialist System. Now players will be able to choose from different specialists based on their abilities. Each Specialist will have a unique ability like a grappling hook or sentry gun and will no longer have limited weapon options.

Dice has sent surveys to players asking about the experience they had playing the beta for Battlefield 2042. The one thing about the survey that caught everyone's eye was that the survey also included a question about the new Specialist System. The new specialist system has been a constant talking point in the battlefield community and has caused some controversy.

Battlefield fans are currently divided on opinions about the new Specialist System. While some people like the system, old school battlefield fans prefer the old class system where each class had a limited selection of weapons. Old school battlefield fans argue that this created balance in the game.

After Dice started sending surveys, players started speculating that the new Specialist system might be reworked or totally scrapped. However, that will probably require a lot of time and it does not seem that the new Specialist system will be going any time soon.

Call of Duty Revealed a New Anti-Cheat System

Cheaters have been a massive problem for Call of Duty Warzone players for a long time. The cheating problem has been plaguing Warzone almost since the launch. This has caused tons of players to steer away from Warzone.

It seems that now Call of Duty is determined to get rid of this problem once and for all. Call of Duty just revealed a new anti-cheat system called Ricochet. The Ricochet system is very similar to the Vanguard anti-cheat system for Valorant. The Ricochet will have a high level of access to your PC, just like Vanguard.

The new Ricochet anti-cheat system will be coming to Call of Duty with the launch of Call of Duty Vanguard, while it will only be available for Warzone when Vanguard and Warzone become integrated. Once Ricochet has officially launched, you will not be able to play Warzone or Call of Duty Vanguard without the Ricochet system.

Although the new Ricochet system will only run when players will be playing the supported games, the system may still seem too intrusive for some players. However, if this new anti-cheat is successful in creating an overall better cheater-free experience for both games, players will most likely not have many issues with it.

AMD Launched a New GPU Without Letting Anyone Know About It

AMD just came out of nowhere and launched a new GPU. A new GPU launch has always been hyped and heavily marketed. This marketing decision by AMD seems interesting to say the least. The new GPU is named after its bigger brother, the RX 6600XT, and is called the RX 6600.

The all new RX 6600 is targeted at 1080p gaming and, its performance shows results follow this. While their hardware is the same, the RX 6600 is a cut down version of the RX 6600 XT with limited cores, etc.

The MSRP of the RX 6600 is revealed to be 328 USD which puts it in direct competition with the 3060 from NVIDIA. However, it seems highly unlikely that gamers will be able to find an RX 6600 anywhere near the MSRP. The chip shortage has created a serious problem for GPU manufacturers to maintain the stock and, the new RX 6600 will be a victim of this as well.

No More All Chat Function in League of Legends

Riot Games just added a massive update to their game League of Legends. With this update, the all-chat function in the game has been removed. Now players will no longer be able to chat with their enemies during a LOL match.

According to Riot Games, they have implemented this change in an attempt to reduce the toxicity of the game. While players like the idea of chatting with their opponents and feel that this change will lessen the enjoyment factor for them, Riot Games have a strong opinion against toxicity. As stated by Riot Games, the toxicity reduction that this change will offer is far better than a few unhappy players about not being able to chat with opponents. With all that said, Riot Games have confirmed that this change will not be permanent and, they will take player feedback into consideration.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition

The last Grand Theft Auto game was launched back in 2013 and ever since then, fans have been waiting for the next GTA game. While fans were expecting GTA 6 to be the next installment in the Grand Theft Auto franchise, Rockstar had other plans for us.

For the past few months, rumors started to circulate the internet claiming that Rockstar was planning to release a remaster for a previous GTA title. After some time, leaks started to unfold that suggested that Rockstar is not planning to remaster one but three of their previous GTA titles. The leaks started to become so frequent that only confirmation was left from Rockstar. Some people even managed to find the exact logos of the remastered trilogy.

Rockstar Games has finally revealed that the next game is going to be a remaster for GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas. A sneak peek teaser trailer for Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition was released by Rockstar Games on the 8th of October, 2021 and fans are super excited about it.
