How To Play Among Us: Win as The Imposter or Crewmate

Despite being a relatively simple game, Among Us is super popular, with its player base blowing up to several million. Why is Among Us so popular you may ask? Well, the game is just fun and much more social than other games. Here is our take on how to play Among Us and how to win Among Us.

How To Play Among Us

To start playing Among Us, first, you will have to purchase and download the game. The game costs 2.99 USD on Steam. Click on purchase and then download. After it has been downloaded you can start the game and either join public lobbies where you get to play with random people, or you can create a private lobby with some of your friends.

The Main Premise

The main premise of the game is that there is a certain number of players stuck on a map where some of the players are just regular crewmates doing their job while some of them are aliens disguised as imposters trying to kill some crewmates. As you load a match, you become a crewmate or an imposter at random. Here is everything that the crewmates can or have to do:

Tasks

The main job of the crewmates is to complete the simple tasks scattered around the map. You can see the names of the tasks on the top left of your screen and you can see their locations using the map on the top right of your screen. You can also complete tasks as a ghost after getting killed or voted out.

Emergency Tasks

Imposters can initiate certain emergency tasks that crewmates must complete. As soon as you hear the alarm, run towards the arrows on your screen so you can complete the emergency tasks. If crewmates are unsuccessful in completing the emergency tasks before the timer runs out, they lose.

Reporting Bodies

If you see any bodies of your crewmates on the ground, you will see a “Report” icon show up on the bottom right of your screen. Press that icon to report the body. This will initiate a discussion where you can explain to other players what you saw. You can also let your teammates know if you are suspicious about someone being the imposter.

Emergency Meeting

If you are suspicious about a player being an imposter, you can call a meeting by pressing the “Emergency Meeting” button usually located in the center of the map. Once near the button, an icon will show up on the bottom right of your screen. Press the icon to call the meeting. If you see a player jump out of a vent, run ASAP to call a meeting and tell your teammates what you saw.

Voting Someone Out

The other main objective of the crewmates is to figure out who is the imposter by discussing it during the meetings. If you have come to a conclusion about who is the imposter, you can vote them out during the meeting phase by clicking on their name and then clicking the vote button. You can't vote if you are dead though. If crewmates are successful in voting out all the imposters, they win.

Security Cameras

Both crewmates and imposters have access to security cameras which they can use to view what is happening in certain locations on the map. You can use these cameras to see if there is something fishy going on.

If you get to be an imposter then you are in luck because being the imposter is super fun. You get to do all sorts of things, with the main objective being killing the crewmates. Here is everything that the imposters can or have to do.

Killing Imposters

The main job of the imposters is to kill enough crewmates that the number of crewmates equals the number of imposters. So if there are two imposters in the game and ten total players, then the imposters have to kill a total of six crewmates to win. To kill someone, just come close to them and the “Kill” icon will show up on your screen. Click on the icon to kill a crewmate. Be careful while killing as the bodies of the victims fall right where you killed them.

Venting

Imposters have access to vents that are scattered around the map. Imposters can use these vents to get around the map way faster than the crewmates. To hop into a vent, just go near a vent and the icon to get into it will pop up on your screen. Click on the icon and then you can select which vent you want to pop out of.

Don't Get Caught

While you can kill anyone you like, you have to make sure you are not caught while doing so because if you do, the crewmates will vote you out of the ship and you will lose. This goes for venting as well. If a crewmate sees you venting, they will know you are the imposter and call the emergency meeting to vote you out.

Self Reporting

If you kill an enemy and their body drops to the ground, you can report them while being an imposter. Why would you do this? Well, you can self-report and frame a crewmate who is already suspicious in the minds of other crewmates.

Sabotaging

While imposters can not do any of the tasks, they can sabotage the ship in different ways. Imposters can shut the doors, close the lights, and even initiate emergy tasks like the “Reactor Meltdown'' or the “O2 Leak”.

Lying

You may be wondering why is Among Us so popular. Well, the best part about Among Us is lying. If you are the imposter and a crewmate is suspicious of you, you can tell all sorts of creative lies to frame other crewmates and save yourself.

Tips For Winning Among Us As Crewmate

If you want to learn how to win Among Us, you will have to learn how to win as a crewmate. It is because in Among Us you will mostly be playing as a crewmate and getting to be an imposter has a low probability. For that reason, here are three really effective tips on how you can win in Among Us.

Task Animations

In Among Us, as you perform a task, certain animations appear on the map that other crewmates can also see. Learn these animations so if there is an imposter who is just faking the tasks, you will be able to tell if you don’t see the animations.

Clear Yourself In Front Of Other Crewmates

In the same way, you can perform certain tasks that have obvious animations in front of your crewmates so you can clear yourself in front of them. This way, there is less chance that you will get voted out.

Keep An Eye On The Taskbar

The taskbar on the upper left corner of the screen represents the tasks being completed. If the taskbar starts to fill up, it means that tasks are being done. If you see a crewmate doing a task but the taskbar doesn’t move, then that crewmate is an imposter.

Tips For Winning Among Us As Imposter

Playing as an imposter in Among Us is super fun. If you are wondering why is Among Us so popular, playing as an imposter is one reason for it. Here are three effective tips on how to win as imposter in Among Us.

Beware of Security Cameras

If you see a security camera with a red light on it, then it means that a crewmate is using them and can see what you are doing. Avoid killing crewmates under the security cameras. However, you can kill the crewmate watching the cameras.

Get Your Story Straight

When you become suspicious in the eyes of other players, you will need to present them with a valid explanation about why you are not the impostor, so get your story straight before they call a meeting and be ready to answer any questions.

Use The Crowd To Your Advantage

If you see more than three crewmates on top of each other then you can just simply go on top of them and kill any random one of them. Because there are more than four of you, no one can tell who is the imposter. The most common way to do this is by turning the lights off and then killing a crewmate as tons of them come to fix the lights.

Final Words

Among Us is a fun game because it is much more social than other games. If you are just starting out, we have explained how to get into it in great detail. Check out some of our tips if you are trying to figure out how to win Among Us.
