How to Stop Lag & Reduce Ping on Roblox Mobile
Over 54 million players log on to Roblox every single day. This experience encourages gamers to be who they want to be and do what they want to do.
For players, developers, or designers, Roblox provides a friendly atmosphere to grow and have fun in the digital space. This can make it particularly frustrating when things like lag and ping get in the way of your gaming.
Roblox is available on several platforms, including PC, Xbox, and mobile devices. Fixing lag and ping on dedicated consoles and gaming PCs is fairly simple. With mobile devices, there’s a bit of extra challenge: Unless you are an extreme enthusiast, there’s very little you can do to explicitly upgrade your hardware.
The games you can play on Roblox Mobile are effectively infinite, with new experiences to explore every day. These video game genres range from shooters to puzzle games to survival horror to casual roleplay and more.
With a casual game, occasionally unresponsive controls can degrade your time playing. With more competitive ones, these issues can make the game entirely unplayable.
Recently, a new world record was broken as engineers in Japan reached an internet speed of 319 terabits per second. Until that sort of speed, millions higher than the average home internet, becomes the norm, ping will be an issue.
WTFast makes it our mission to troubleshoot game problems as they appear. Below, we will highlight ways to solve lag and ping specifically for mobile devices.
What Causes Lag and Ping?
Lag and ping make themselves known in two different ways.
When your game is lagging, you may skip frames or stutter when playing. In the worst of situations, game audio continues while your character appears frozen in place, not responding to anything. With high ping, you may have consistently delayed responsiveness.
The first issue which may cause lag and ping is unsupported devices. Generally, Roblox supports devices dating back to the iPad 2, iPhone 4S, and iPod Touch 5th-generation. iOS 9 and Android OS 5.0 are supported, as are various Amazon Fire Devices.
On Android devices, a message will automatically appear if your device is unsupported. Unsupported devices include skippable errors (where experiences will run with lag) and unskippable errors (where experiences cannot be played at all). There is no solution to these hardware issues aside from switching your hardware.
Another detail that leads to ping is your distance from the game server. Roblox has numerous servers worldwide and especially across North America, making this a lesser problem for many.
In general, server connection is not a solvable problem, as most games will automatically have you connect to the ideal server. Still, this point does connect to the core root of many lag and ping issues.
Solving these issues comes down to addressing three specific problems:
The first is configuring your particular device to optimize its immediate functionality relating to the game.
The second is making your connection to your source of internet as streamlined as possible.
The last —and most significant — is making sure your connection is not just fast, but stable, for responsiveness that doesn’t change.
Next up, we’ll showcase how to stop lag at its source.
Basic Mobile Fixes
Let’s highlight the options you can take to alleviate issues directly from your phone. If these steps don’t work, we will follow through by providing more advanced solutions.
First, check your device settings to make sure it is supported by Roblox. If this is an issue, it’s one that cannot be fixed on your hardware.
Your first step should be to reduce the intensity the game has on your phone’s processing power. When you go into the Settings menu in an experience, you should see a sliding bar for graphics pop up. Turn these as far down as you feel comfortable doing for a less processor-heavy experience.
From here, you should make sure to close out all background apps when running Roblox Mobile. These can subtly (but significantly) impact your performance, especially as the apps you run compound.
Next, make sure your device has Power Saver mode turned off if this is an option. This mode is usually found in the settings of your mobile device itself. Some automatically enter this mode, which conserves speed and strength in favor of longevity. Your phone battery won’t last as long, but you’ll have better connection and graphics potential as a result.
If these solutions still don’t work, you may need to start deleting apps. Even when not in use, apps can slow down a device thanks to high storage usage. If you have applications you never use, there’s no downside to offloading them.
You’ll also want to make sure you keep both Roblox Mobile and your phone updated. Using out-of-date versions of apps and operating systems can negatively impact performance.
Even if these don’t perfectly solve issues, they should improve your performance. For a more wide-spanning fix, we have more advanced solutions to connection issues.
Advanced Mobile Fixes
At this point, you’ve done everything you can to streamline processes on your phone. Next, we’ve got more advanced mobile fixes to help eliminate ping.
To start, you’ll want to examine your router. You may need to perform a hard reset, done by resetting and holding the button for 30 seconds. This can clear it and reduce router-related issues in the process. Proximity to your router also has implications for how your internet connection works.
On a micro-scale, this includes being in the same room as it if it’s placed far away from where you play. On a macro scale, this includes connecting directly to it. Wired connections are faster and more stable than wireless ones, and ethernet adaptors allow your phone to connect directly.
If taking this step, you may want a stand or a secondary device to stream to from your phone. Regardless, forming a direct connection is sure to improve your speeds.
The above solution may be complicated for the extra supplies it adds to your build. Compare this with our next solution.
One advanced way to strike the heart of ping issues is also an easy one to put into practice: Using a route optimizer for your mobile device can help make these issues a thing of the past.
WTFast is at the forefront of route optimizing software with our Gamers’ Private Network (GPN) that controls the route your data takes to reduce latency and improve your game. Mobile and PC Gaming problems can be easily solved, thanks to this innovative technology.
What Does a Route Optimizer Do?
On the surface level, a route optimizer does exactly that: It optimizes your route. Our GPN both demonstrably lowers ping and helps keep it stable to reduce lag spikes.
We do not use a VPN, though the two use similar acronyms. In a VPN, the priority is placed on security and anonymity, bouncing your data and masking it. This often results in slightly slower transmission and can easily be flagged by online games as hacking. With our GPN, we control the journey your data makes and optimize the path in real-time from client to server.
The end result is a faster connection, and one that is less prone to interruptions. However, what we provide in our mobile client doesn’t stop there.
Even if a route optimizer solely reduced ping and lag, it would already be an essential tool. Our GPN does even more, as WTFast provides data analyzing high and low ping, as well as average ping over time. We also provide information on the total amount of milliseconds saved over a session.
This serves to tackle ping issues in a way a single person can’t on their own. While you can control much of your gaming experience, you can’t necessarily control the route your data takes. For eliminating latency, a route optimizer is needed to streamline your experience.
We presently support Roblox and over 1000+ other games on mobile and PC devices, with more added regularly. When you’re done playing on Roblox, you can take our GPN’s benefits to any other game that catches your eye.
Eliminate Lag on Roblox Mobile
When your game runs smoothly, a whole new world of freedom is uncovered.
Ping is rarely caused by one major problem. There are plenty of compounding issues that can make your game laggy, but we’ve got you covered on all fronts. Our route optimizer tackles your biggest ping issues, and our blog provides guidance to troubleshoot all the minor ones.
