GTA 6’s Extended Look Is Here — 7 Things Everyone Is Talking About

GTA 6 Just Showed Us What $1+ Billion in Game Development Looks Like

After more than a decade of waiting, Rockstar finally gave gamers a much longer look at Grand Theft Auto VI — and, unsurprisingly, the internet has a LOT to say about it.

The nearly 27-minute GTA VI: An Extended Look premiered on August 27 before becoming available on YouTube and Rockstar’s website. Captured entirely from in-game PlayStation 5 footage, the showcase gave players their best look yet at Vice City, Jason, Lucia, and the massive world Rockstar has been building.

And while there are plenty of tiny details fans are dissecting, these are seven of the biggest things everyone seems to be talking about.

1. Vice City Looks Absolutely Massive

Rockstar isn't simply bringing players back to the Vice City they remember.

GTA 6 takes place across the fictional state of Leonida, with Vice City at its center, and the new footage showed an incredibly dense world filled with beaches, highways, businesses, neighborhoods, waterways, interiors, and seemingly endless things happening around the player.

The level of detail is one of the first things that jumps out. This isn't just a map designed to get you from one mission to another. It looks like Rockstar wants players to actually get lost in it.

And that's probably exactly what GTA fans have been waiting for.

2. Jason and Lucia Are the Heart of the Game

GTA 6 isn't just introducing a new map. It's putting a lot more emphasis on the relationship between its two protagonists.

Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos are partners in crime, and the Extended Look shows how closely their stories and gameplay are connected.

Players can switch between them, sometimes controlling one while the other follows along. During action sequences, the two can work together, cover each other, and create a much more dynamic feel than simply switching characters between missions.

The big question now is how far Rockstar takes that relationship throughout the full game.

3. The NPCs Might Be the Real Stars

The graphics are impressive, but the way the world behaves could be even more interesting.

NPCs appear to react more dynamically to what's happening around them, while police investigations can take into account details about crimes and the people involved. NPC reactions can also vary depending on the situation rather than everyone simply responding with the same scripted behavior.

That matters because a believable open world isn't just about making characters look realistic.

It's about making them act like they belong there.

And Rockstar seems to be pushing that idea pretty hard with GTA 6.

4. The Police Are Getting Smarter

If you've spent any time playing GTA, you already know how this usually goes.

You commit a crime.

The police show up.

You run.

Chaos happens.

GTA 6 appears to be making that entire system considerably more sophisticated.

The Extended Look and accompanying previews have revealed a more detailed wanted system, including police investigations and criminal profiles that can influence how authorities respond. Players may also be able to use things like changing clothes or altering their appearance to make escaping more difficult for police.

In other words, “just drive away really fast” might not be the universal solution anymore.

5. Rockstar Is Making the World About More Than Crime

Yes, GTA is still GTA.

There are guns. There are robberies. There are police chases. There are cars. There is plenty of chaos.

But the Extended Look also showed a ridiculous amount of stuff to do outside the main criminal storyline.

Boating. Diving. Basketball. Racing. Exploring. Character customization. Pets. Social interactions. And plenty of smaller activities scattered throughout the world.

That's important because the best open-world games aren't necessarily the ones with the biggest maps.

They're the ones that make you forget what the main mission was because you got distracted doing something completely random.

GTA players know exactly what we're talking about.

6. The Attention to Detail Is Getting Ridiculous

One of the biggest reactions to the Extended Look has been the sheer amount of tiny details players are already spotting.

From environmental interactions to vehicle mechanics, character animations, interiors, activities, and small world-building touches, fans are already pausing footage frame by frame looking for things Rockstar slipped into the game.

And that's before players even have the full game in their hands.

Which raises an interesting question:

How much of GTA 6 will players discover months — or even years — after launch?

Because if the footage is any indication, Rockstar has packed an absurd amount into this world.

7. The Hype Has Officially Reached Another Level

Let's be honest.

GTA 6 was already one of the most anticipated games in history.

Now Rockstar has shown everyone what it's actually been building.

The game is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and the Extended Look has only intensified the conversation around what could become one of the biggest game launches ever.

But here's the interesting part.

After waiting this long, gamers aren't simply expecting GTA 6 to be good.

They're expecting it to change the standard.

And that creates a pretty massive challenge for Rockstar.

So... Is GTA 6 Going to Live Up to the Hype?

That's the question nobody can answer yet.

The Extended Look certainly looks impressive. The world is incredibly detailed, the characters are more dynamic, and Rockstar appears to be taking the open-world formula further than it has before.

But seeing a 27-minute showcase and actually spending dozens — or potentially hundreds — of hours inside the world are two very different things.

And there's another question gamers will be watching closely as launch approaches:

How will GTA 6 actually perform once millions of players get their hands on it?

Because beautiful graphics and enormous worlds are one thing.

Keeping a massive game feeling smooth when players are jumping into the action is another.

For gamers, the goal isn't just to have an incredible game.

It's to actually enjoy playing it.

And when GTA 6 finally arrives, you can bet players will be paying attention to every part of that experience.

November 19 can't come soon enough.
