Dota 2 Support Guide 2022
Support is one of the most important roles in Dota 2. However, they are neglected by players quite often. If you are a support player in Dota 2 and want to get better at it, you are at the right place. Here is our complete Dota 2 support guide for 2022.
What Are Supports In Dota 2 & Why Are They Necessary
As the name suggests, Support heroes are there to support the team. Why does the team need support? During the early to mid-game of a Dota 2 match, the core heroes are super vulnerable. They need support to stay alive and farm.
The core heroes include the carries and the offlaners, both of which can only reach their full potential if they are allowed to farm comfortably during the laning phase. If the core heroes are not farmed before the late-game starts, the team will have a much harder time trying to deal with the opponents.
Supports are there to help the carries and offlaners have an easier time farming during the early phases of the game. Supports have abilities that can heal their teammates, give them armor, or prevent them from dying.
Another common ability that support heroes have is that they can lower the cooldowns of their teammates so they can get their abilities back faster. Some supports can even get some early kills during the laning phase.
In short, the main job of the support is to help the cores farm and gain experience.
The Top Dota 2 Support Heroes Right Now
With the recent patch for Dota 2, several support heroes have climbed up the ladder of effectiveness. Dota 2 players have started to pick particular heroes because of their improved abilities. Here are some of the best support heroes you can pick in Dota 2 for 2022.
Winter Wyvern
Winter Wyvern is primarily a support hero in Dota 2, but she has abilities that make her great at the Disabler or the Nuker role as well. As her name suggests, all her abilities have something to do with winter, cold temperatures, or snow. Wyvern is basically a dragon that breaths snow instead of fire.
If you were playing Dota 2 when Wyvern got added to the game, you probably know how much havoc she reaped in Dota 2 matches. Wyvern, at launch, had one of the most powerful ultimates in the game. Along with that, the ultimate lasted the full duration.
However, since she got added to the game, Wyvern significantly got nerfed. However, this does not mean that Wyvern is no longer a viable hero. She is currently one of the strongest support heroes in the game.
Winter Wyvern was on the 12th spot in pick rate for the 2021-2022 DPC Spring tour and had a win rate of 53.9%. Also, Winter Wyvern was at the third spot on the most picked list for the Arlington Major and got an impressive win rate of 55.56%. Needless to say, Winter Wyvern is a great choice for anyone looking to play as support in Dota 2.
Dazzle
Dazzle is probably the strongest support hero of Dota 2 right now. While his abilities allow him to be effective at the Nuker or Disabler role, he shines the most in the Support role. The main reason for that is healing, lots and lots of healing.
As we have already discussed, one of the main jobs of support heroes is to heal their teammates. No other hero does healing better than Dazzle. Almost all Dazzle's abilities have something to do with healing teammates.
First up, we have the Shallow Grave ability. With this ability, all teammates essentially get immune from death. Even if they are really close to dying, the Shallow Grave ability will not let your teammates die.
Next up, we have the Shadow Wave ability. With this ability, Dazzle sends out a huge bolt of power toward his teammates that heals them and damages any enemy heroes that get in the way. The next and final healing ability is the Bad Juju. Teammates affected by this ability will gain armor. On the other hand, the enemies will lose armor. If everything is done right, Dazzle can heal his teammates potentially up to 800 to 1000 hp.
Jakiro
While Jakiro might not be the best support in Dota 2, he is certainly the most versatile. Jakiro is not only great at the support role, but he performs great at the Nuker, Pusher, and Disabler roles.
Jakiro is an alrounder support hero. He has never been that overpowered that Valve would have to nerf him down to useless. Jakiro has stayed as a decent hero in almost all seasons of the game. No matter what the current meta is in Dota 2, Jakiro has no problem holding his own.
One of the main reasons why Jakiro is such a good support hero is that he can effectively harass off-layers because of his ability to deal tons of damage. While he does all this, the carries can safely farm and upgrade all their abilities. Regardless of whether Jakiro is up against, Dawnbreaker, Razer, or Viper, Jakiro has no trouble dealing with them.
Another area where Jakiro is effective is pushing. Jakiro is one of the only heroes in the game that can inflict damage on towers despite them having the Glyph of Fortification. His Liquid fire ability has no trouble going through the Glyph. This makes Jakiro one of the key heroes when the team decides to end the game.
Final Thoughts
We tried out each hero for ourselves for several hours and picked out the top support heroes based on that. However, these suggestions are for the current state of the game.
Valve regularly updates the game, which may lead to certain heroes from our list becoming better or worse at the support role. Watch out for updates and look for the changes it brings to these heroes and adjust accordingly.
