New Rift Expansion Revealed

Trion Worlds has just announced the first expansion pack for the popular MMORPG Rift. It is entitled Storm Legion. The new expansion pack boasts new and fun additional game content such as two new huge continents to explore, increased level cap, improvements in the professions system, and much more!


Rift, the popular fantasy-themed MMORPG, was developed and published by Trion Worlds back in March 2011. It has garnered multiple awards and accolades and has been well received by the gaming community. This year, they're looking to improve the game further by providing the game's first expansion pack - Storm Legion. Storm Legion adds new and exciting features that gamers will surely look forward to.

MMO gaming has been very successful and millions of gamers play this type of games. However, lag issues have plagued the MMO community making the games less fun if not irritating to play. With games such as World of Warcraft, Call of Duty, League of Legends, and other competitive games, there is simply no room for lag. 


To help you enjoy playing MMO games, we have compiled several tips that can help you reduce lag and make your gameplay smoother.


Upgrade your internet connection plan. If you have budget, you can always do this as it allows faster data transfer to and from the game server. The faster the data transfer, the lesser lag and the smoother the gameplay.

Upgrade your computer's hardware. Sometimes, lag occurs because your computer cannot process the game data fast enough and display it on your computer screen. This happens when your computer hardware doesn't meet the minimum specifications of the MMO game you are playing (or when the game's display and video settings are much higher than waht your computer can handle). To resolve this, you can either lower the graphics settings of the game or upgrade your computer hardware.

Use SSH tunnels or Virtual Private Networks (VPN). If you are short on cash and you cannot upgrade your internet's monthly plan, you can always try using VPNs and/or SSH tunnels. These options are much cheaper and help speed up MMO gaming by up to 70%. What VPNs and SSH tunnels do is they direct your game data traffic directly to the game server (just like a shortcut) thereby improving data transfer rates and reducing lag.

Flyff Gold Announced

Flyff, one of the longest-running MMO game, has just announced that it will be undergoing a major upgrade. Flyff Gold, will be launching in July complete with new systems, cool user interface, sleeker animations and new high-end graphics.


Flyff, which actually means Fly for Fun, is an MMO developed by Gala Lab and was released back in the Christmas of December 2005. The main distinction of the game from other MMOs is the main method of transportation. Skilled players on the game use flying in moving around the map, hence the name Fly for Fun. Around 6 million users play Flyff. The game is free-to-play and uses microtransactions to generate revenue.



This July, Flyff Gold will go live on all English servers. Flyff Gold closely follows the recommendations and requests of the community making sure that the player base remains happy and satisfied with the gameplay. The press release has revealed some of these changes including:

Elder Scrolls Online : Ebonheart Pact Faction Revealed

Game Informer has just revealed details on the third and final faction in Elder Scrolls Online - the Ebonheart Pact Faction.


There are three factions that battle each other for the Imperial Throne in the Elder Scrolls storyline. The first two are the Dagerfall Covenant and the Aldmeri Dominion (read more about both factions here). The third and final faction is the Ebonheart Pact Faction.


The Ebonheart Pact Faction is represented by the dragon on the ouroboros. The whole purpose of the Ebonheart Pact is to form an alliance that is strong enough to defend themselves from opposing enemy forces.


There are three races that compose the Ebonhear Pact. These are the Dunmer, Nords and the Argonians. The Dunmer are dark elves that have a very balanced skill set. They have above-average skills in intellect, strength and agility making them an excellent all-around warrior. The Nords are warriors that are very resistant to cold and magical frost. The Argonians on the other hand are very adept in guerrilla warfare. They are immune to many diseases and poisons. They are also very agile.

Gameplay lag is the most hated problem of all gamers. It can be very frustrating playing MMO games and fast-twitch games if the game stutters and stops every now and then. There are a lot of things that can cause lag. Listed below are several causes of lag and what you can do to resolve the issue.

 

Background programs - A lot of programs in your computer run in the background. These include virus scanners, firewalls, software updates and many more. These programs eat your computer's resources and thus cause your game to lag. Some of these programs such as software updates and downloads consume your precious bandwidth that causes MMO games to lag. You should consider closing these programs to maximize the resources your game can use.

 

Graphics Requirements - Most games nowadays boast beautiful graphics. These games require powerful graphics card and if yours does not meet the game's requirements, you will have a laggy gameplay. You can either upgrade your graphics card (to enjoy the game on its full settings) or you can tone down the graphics settings so your computer can handle it better.

 

"Server Hops" - Sometimes, your ISP routes your data in such a way that it has to go through multiple intermediary devices or "hops." This causes a longer time to transfer data thereby causing lag. You can solve this issue by changing your ISP or by using SSH Tunnels and/or Private Virtual Networks (PVN). SSH tunnels and PVNs help reduce the number of hops (and thus reducing lag) by directing your traffic to the game server.

Elder Scrolls Online Factions Revealed

Two factions of the upcoming MMO game, Elder Scrolls Online, had been revealed by the Game Informer. These two factions detailed, the Daggerfall Covenant and the Aldmeri Dominion, are two of the three alliances that battle for the imperial throne in the Elder Scrolls Saga. The third alliance will probably revealed in the succeeding weeks.


The first faction, the Dagerfall Covenant, is more democratic than the other three factions. There are three races in the Dagerfall Covenant namely: the Bretons, the Orcs and the Redguards. The Bretons are the descendants of humans and they can cast spells. However, they are weak physically. The Orcs (aka Orsimer) are known for their strength and powerful armors. The Redguards, are quick and fast. These three races form the Dagerfall Covenant.


The second faction that was revealed is the Aldmeri Dominion. Three races compose the Aldmeri Dominion: the Altmer, Bosmer and Khajit. The Altmer are high elves that are tall but not physically gifted with strength and speed. They are, however, very intelligent  and are very proficient in spells. The Bosmer are wood elves that are very quick and agile and the Khajit are characterized by speed and intelligence.

This month has been a very big one for EVE Online. First, they celebrated their 9th year anniversary and now, their celebrating the release of their latest expansion, EVE Online Inferno. May 22 marks the day Inferno goes live. The new exciting features and the overhaul of major war systems will hopefully help EVE Online celebrate more anniversaries in the future.


EVE Online is a space MMO game that deviates from the usual hack-and-slash or sword-and-sorcery genre of online games. It allows players to create and customize a character that the player can use to explore the universe and battle others. EVE Online was published back in 2003 and has enjoyed positive reviews from the gaming community. The game has also won numerous awards in its nine years in the gaming industry.

Call of Duty is one of the most popular gaming titles in the industry. It has received positive reviews from the gaming community and is surely one of the most fun and exciting game in the industry. However, playing the game might become frustrating and not enjoyable if you experience lag. Here are some simple tips on how to reduce lag while playing Call of Duty:


  • Make sure that you meet the recommended settings (or at least the minimum requirements) of the game. It would be better if your gaming rig more than meets these requirements.

  • Install the game's latest patches. Patch updates help optimize the game to achieve better and smoother gameplay.

  • Make sure that your computer is free from spyware, viruses and other malicious content that bog down your PC's resources and performance. Always perform a maintenance check (e.g. Virus Scan, Registry Cleaner, Disk Defragmentation) to make sure that your PC is in top condition

  • Close down all other programs that use your internet connection. This will allow Call of Duty to utilize your network's full capacity in transferring the data to and from the game server

  • Prioritize Call of Duty in the list of processes in the task manager. You can do this by opening the task manager, going to the Processes tab, right clicking the blackopsmp.exe and setting it to High Priority. You can also lower the Steam process using the same method.

How to Reduce Lag in Online Games

Lag while playing MMOs or online games has always given gamers a headache. To avoid this, here are a couple of tips that can help reduce lag while playing your favorite online game.


Tip #1: While playing, close down programs that use up your computer's resources. These programs(e.g. antivirus programs, firewalls) usually run in the background causing your computer to split the resources to both the game you are playing and other programs. 

Note: When choosing an antivirus, choose one that is lightweight and that doesn't use up much resource.


Tip #2: Make sure that your computer meets the minimum requirements of the game. If your computer doesn't meet the requirements, your computer will have a slow time computing the data making you experience lag. Upgrading your hardware will surely help resolve this issue. Also, when using a router, make sure that it is of quality and the firmware is up to date. Most router manufacturers release firmware updates that are optimized for gaming.


Tip #3: When playing MMOs or online games, close down any downloads or services that are using your internet. MMO games use your internet connection to send and receive game data packets which means the faster the transfer of data, the smoother your gameplay. When playing, choose a server that gives you a better ping. It doesn't mean that if the server is closer to your location, you will already get a better ping (it depends on the routing of your data). You can also consider following things: upgrading your internet connection, using an SSH tunnel or a Virtual Private Network (VPN).

MMO Version of The Elder Scrolls Confirmed

Bethesda, the publisher and developer of the popular action RPG series The Elder Scrolls, is also looking to enter the MMO arena. Information about the project MMO which was named The Elder Scrolls Online will be revealed in the June issue of the Game Informer.  


There have been a lot of rumors surrounding the possibility of an MMO version of the Elder Scrolls. Just this week, Game Informer confirmed all the rumors and stated that an online version of the game is being developed by a team at Zenimax Online Studios and that it will be titled The Elder Scrolls Online. More details about the MMO project will be given in the upcoming months.


The Elder Scrolls video game series has been around for almost two decades now. The first installment of the game was released back in 1994 with subsequent game titles coming out after a couple of years. Last year, Bethesda Game Studios published the fifth installment of the series, The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim. The latest installment has been highly anticipated by the gaming community and has been critically acclaimed upon its release. Critics have given the whole Elder Scrolls Series a positive rating which only means that we could expect that the Elder Scrolls Online will also be a big hit and a great treat to the gaming community.
